Community Seedlings Guiding Principles Values:
Community Seedlings Preschool is a school, inspired by the innovative and inspiring
principles of the Reggio Emilia Schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy. We have a Social
Constructivist approach to early learning, which is to say that children construct
their own knowledge based upon a series of complex interactions with their
environment and significant others, peers as well as adults.
The following guiding principles have helped us to articulate and strengthen our
program. These principles were carefully and intentional chosen to reflect our
philosophy, community and the dedication we share with each and the children.

• Belonging: The environment should always reflect the importance of
relationships. Building trusting, respectful relationships, fostering individuality,
feeling free to share their feelings and ideas, and learning to work
collaboratively in a group.
• Diversity: Valuing multiple points of view that will be respected and heard, with
the intent to grow together and be open to new possibilities.
• Creativity: Enhancing imagination with problem solving skills, creative thinking,
and innovating. Showing flexibility, patience and support with their inquiries and
ideas.
• Commitment: Encourage ourselves to remain steadfast in our pursuit of high
quality education for young children, and to encourage our families to do so as
well. We will continue to pursue ongoing education and brain research, so as to
remain current on a regular basis.
• Nature: Children and adults have the right to exploration of the natural world,
and to immerse themselves with beautiful outdoor environments, natural
materials and gardening. We understand and value the importance of children
having the time to connect with nature. Developing ecological awareness will be
encouraged and modeled.
• Passion: We aim to support the pursuit of those ideas that inspire and invite
children into action and exploration. Being involved, focused, confident
contributors and players in their learning. Our goal is to cultivate a joy of
learning.
• Play: Through play and inquiry, young children practice ways of learning and
interacting with the world around them that will apply throughout their lives.
Learning is focused on supporting the development of strategies, dispositions, and
skills for lifelong learning through play and inquiry.
